A word from our leader

A word from our (fearless) leader...

(In full disclosure, I took the liberty of taking this letter below from Rohin summarizing the reunion-ishness from the Yahoo groups page. It's sort of a challenge to access, and harder to see photos there. etc. I'd love to see recent photos of people, their families, including pets, etc. if folks want to post them here.)

I would like to say how honored I am to be a member of your class. I am so proud of everyone's accomplishments and the difference that you are having on people's lives. I have been in the business world for the last 20 years and I see how rare the Earlham ethic of tolerance, acceptance and consensus is, and how much it is needed. My Earlham experience has helped me make hard choices and exercise tolerance and understanding in situations that paid council has told me I was "soft" and "nuts", but it has always worked out better for everyone. I believe that most higher education is missing that special extra....Earlhamness. I sometimes still have a nagging feeling that I am not doing enough to save the world, and when I get a copy of Earlhamite , a little part of me sees it as "What you have not done with your life". But, that's ok because Earlham sets a very high standard and that is what makes it great! Again I want everyone to know that no matter where or what you are doing, you are making a difference in people's lives, and the World is better because you are in it. As far as a class gift, I will follow everyone's lead and go with a scholarship fund from the class of 87. Thank you again for all of your effort and travels, and thanks to Gail,George,Anne,Joe and everyone else who helped.

Sincerely Rohin

(And who doesn't feel better after reading that? really.)

Thanks for the iniative

Fellow classmates,

Have to say I was so torn not being able to speak to more people throughout the course of the weekend. Having my kids in tow was fun, but they had to be accommodated in ways which puts a damper on my individual social life. Glad to see everyone thriving and yes, people are doing some very interesting stuff. If anyone is coming through Ann Arbor, please look us up. Our house will be torn up a bit in 2008, but we always have a bit of spirit to warm you and plenty of conversation.

Thanks to all the people who made it all possible. Also, where does one go for updated classmate information?

Welcome Class of 1987

Hi Everyone!!

Since Rohin has so graciously agreed to be our class chair for the next 20 years, I figure we all need to do everything we can to help him out. I think everyone who made it to the reunion last week had a great time reconnecting, and the conversations went on and on and on. Check out the Reunion photo Stacy took for us!!

After discussing it with several folks, it seems like this blog may be a good way to keep one another posted. The Earlhamite can only give us so much page space a few times a year, and this may be a way for us all to share what's going on in our lives with one another. I've invited everyone who has an e-mail address registered with Earlham to post here. Please feel free to post whatever you feel is appropriate - questions about where we all are, links to your own blogs, family photos, essays, CVs, whatever makes sense to you!!

Post as rarely or as often as you like and check in to keep up!!

and again, many thanks to Rohin!!

Very best,
Mary (Matthews)

p.s. If you know of anyone else who wants to be included, please feel free to contact me at my tethysconsultants.com address listed on the alumni web page. If you have any trouble getting signed in (you may need to create a google account), or posting, please send me an email and I'll do what I can to help you out.
